Microsoft announcement about add-in retirement

Stay informed about Microsoft's retirement of certain add-ins and how it may impact you.

In November 2023, Microsoft announced that Add-ins would be retired in M365 (SharePoint Online) beginning in November 2024. See SharePoint Add-In retirement in Microsoft 365 - Microsoft Community Hub for details. Lightning Tools customers may see this notice in their App Catalog or Admin Center, and may wonder whether this affects our tools for SharePoint Online.

To clarify the announcement, what Microsoft is planning to retire is support for the older "classic" apps using the SharePoint Add-In extensibility model. As the announcement states, Microsoft recommends moving to SharePoint Framework based solutions instead. Lightning Tools made that change to "modern" SharePoint Framework (SPFx) based apps for all of our products about six years ago, as soon as that model became available for us to develop on. These are the versions that your organization purchased, as we no longer sell the older Add-in versions at all.

Please rest assured that we are always striving to stay up to date with Microsoft technology. We were one of the first vendors to offer SPFx apps, and we've been highlighted by Microsoft several times as a leader in that space. We continue to innovate with our SPFx apps, adding more features to support new M365 features as they become available.

If you do happen to own one of our older Add-in apps, we encourage you to move to the SharePoint Framework version of that same app, at no additional charge. Please contact sales@lightningtools.com for help with this.
