This article describes the process to install the Forms Migrator Desktop application either for the first time or as an update.
System requirements and version support
Minimum requirements
- Windows 10 (64-bit), Windows 11 (64-bit), or Windows Server 2012 R2 or later (64-bit)
- Microsoft .NET 8.0.6 (prompted to install as pre-requisite)
- 4GB RAM
- 5GB of free Disk Space

SharePoint Version Support
- SharePoint 2013, 2016, and 2019
- SharePoint Subscription Edition
- SharePoint Online/Microsoft 365
Download the installer
Download the Form Migrator package from the Lightning Tools Download Center and unzip the folder anywhere on your computer.
Double-click the LightningToolsDesktop.exe file to start the installer.
Install prerequisites
If you have not installed the Migrator previously, you may see the following Prerequisites Setup dialog if your computer is missing some of the prerequisites.
Click Next to view the prerequisites that are not yet installed on your computer. You should leave the defaults selected, and click Next.
It may take several minutes for the missing items to be installed.
Finish installing
Next, you'll see a screen displaying the amount of disk space required, and the License terms and conditions to accept before clicking INSTALL.
It may take several minutes to install.
After installation is complete, click Finish, or if you wish to open the Lightning Tools Form Migrator now, click the Run button.
Next, you'll see this screen:
Activate a license
If you have a full or trial license file that you have not yet used, click the 3 dots next to “Select a Lightning Tools Forms Migrator license file”, and browse to your license file to add it here. If you have already activated your license, or if you are trialling and have not yet received a license that allows you to convert/write forms, click Continue to open the application. It may take a few seconds to load the first time.
You can also activate a license by going to the License Details screen from the in-app Help menu.
